COVID 19 News from OCASL
First and foremost, we hope that you and your loved ones are safe. That is concern #1 and it guides any decisions we make together.
As the state of North Carolina moves through the phases of re-opening, we will use this web page to keep you informed on OCASL/DCASL's steps to reopen. At this time, NC is still in phase 1, but hopes to move to phase 2 at the end of this week (Friday). According to the Raleigh News & Observer, Phase 2 would lift the stay at home order, vulnerable populations would still be encouraged to stay at home. Restaurants (indoor seating), public pools and entertainment venues would be allowed to open, at reduced capacity. Limits on mass gatherings would be relaxed, playgrounds could reopen. Phase 2 would last 4 to 6 weeks. It is possible that certain regions of the state will stay in Phase 1 past Friday.
We have had conversations with Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation regarding restarting play. They have not made official decisions yet. We anticipate that they will be very conservative. Chapel Hill shut sports venues down earlier than most surrounding counties, and we assume they will open them back up later than surrounding counties. Durham has been equally conservative in their decision making. We support these authorities because we believe they are making their decisions based on the best available science.
Our current estimate is that we will be able to start playing when the state/region moves into phase 3. As a rough estimate, that would be June 19. And we estimate that initial play will be restricted. That may mean playing small sided pickup soccer within a fixed, limited group of players. We cannot predict when normal, team-based play will resume. It will surely depend on how well people (statewide) do in following safety rules, and ultimately in how well we do in keeping covid case counts down.
As the situation changes, we will update this page to reflect any new decisions.
If you have a credit with OCASL/DCASL we will honor that credit the next time you register for play. If you want a full refund of your credit, please visit this web page.
Stay safe, we hope to see you soon.
